Just four pieces of chess, a white paper and some colored lightbulbs. This was all I needed for this still life. Even in times of 3D video entertainment, the ancient board game of chess has not lost its fascination. People from around the world enjoy the countless strategic variations. I was never good in playing chess, but sometimes tried for fun. Apart from the intellectual challenge, I decided to add a photographic one to it. Long winter evenings are the perfect time to play around with light.

My image licenses are governed by the General Terms & Conditions and the Agreement on Image Usage Rights. Please check this link for details before placing an order. Please note that photos until March 2010 have been taken on 24x36mm film (mostly Fujichrome 100 ASA slides, and 400 ASA for wildlife). These have been carefully converted into digital files using NIKON Coolscan 5000 ED and Adobe Photoshop Elements. Due to the original analogue source, a certain level of grain might be visible on large prints. In general, for sizes of 90x60cm and up, I would always recommend to choose the “Business High Resolution option”.
