A macro-shot of the yellow flower and its pollen reveals an amazing natural beauty. As a child, I used to have a few small cactus plants in my room. It was a special event whenever one of them produced a flower, in most cases just a single one. Whilst I have stopped cultivating these fascinating plants long ago, I much more enjoy finding them outdoors in their natural habitat. I found this extraordinary representative of its species during an afternoon hike along the cliffs east of Dubrovnik.

Please note that photos until March 2010 have been taken on 24x36mm film (mostly Fujichrome 100 ASA slides, and 400 ASA for wildlife). These have been carefully converted into digital files using NIKON Coolscan 5000 ED and Adobe Photoshop Elements. Due to the original analogue source, a certain level of grain might be visible on large prints. In general, for sizes of 90x60cm and up, I would always recommend to choose the “Business High Resolution option”.
